Arm Lift

(Brachioplasty)

Is brachioplasty (arm lift) right for you?

Brachioplasty is a cosmetic surgical procedure, commonly known as the arm lift. This procedure aims to contour, smooth, and reshape the upper arms by removing loose, excessively sagging skin.

When a person gains a significant amount of weight, the skin stretches over time. If a substantial amount of weight is lost, the skin may not have enough elasticity to return to its original position, leading to excess folds of tissue. These changes can occur under the arms, on the chin, and on the upper thighs and lower stomach after significant weight loss.

This surgery removes the extra skin and fat from the underarms to the top of the elbow, tightens the remaining skin, and smooths the tissue, resulting in a more defined and toned appearance in the upper arm area.

You may benefit from brachioplasty if your upper arms are drooping or sagging. This area can develop a batwing-like appearance, with excess skin hanging down when you raise your arms.

After the procedure, you can expect a trimmer look for your upper arms. Many individuals report a boost in confidence, feeling more comfortable in sleeveless shirts, form-fitting tops, and swimsuits.

The best candidate for brachioplasty is a woman who is at her ideal body weight, in good health, and a non-smoker. It’s important to have realistic expectations regarding the outcomes we can achieve with brachioplasty. While scarring is inevitable, we will carefully place incisions to minimize visible scars as much as possible.

Additionally, understanding the procedure and its limitations is key to a successful experience. We encourage open communication about your goals and concerns, as this will help us tailor the approach to suit your individual needs.

Excess skin can lead to feelings of unhappiness and self-consciousness. Many individuals struggle to find tops that are both comfortable and effective at camouflaging sagging skin.

Procedures like brachioplasty can help enhance self-image and boost confidence, allowing you to feel more comfortable in your own skin.

Maintaining good physical and mental health is essential for achieving optimal results from brachioplasty, and it may be appropriate to wait if you’re not fully ready. Your personal schedule is also an important factor to consider, as timing can greatly impact your recovery process. Although recovery from brachioplasty is generally straightforward, you’ll need time off to heal properly. We recommend avoiding heavy lifting for at least six weeks following the surgery to ensure a smooth recovery. It’s also beneficial to have a support system in place during this time, as having assistance can make the healing process more comfortable and allow you to focus on your recovery.
